Most companies have at least a couple of complaints about them written online. As a business, your online reputation should mean a lot to you, since even just one negative review can mean a lost customer to you. While it’s unrealistic to expect your credit card processor to have all positive reviews written about them online, you do want to be careful if you can find more than a handful of complaints. It’s usually indicative of what kind of experience you can expect to have with them if there are more than a handful of them online.
Of course, there is always going to be an unhappy customer who expresses his or her dissatisfaction online, but they should be few and far between. Also, we understand and recognize that people are less likely to go online and leave positive feedback. So what ends up happening is that the pool of people leaving bad reviews about a company online tend only to be the people who’ve had a bad experience with that company. That’s not to say that there aren’t also plenty of people out there who’ve had great experiences, just that those people, like I said, are less likely to actively go online to leave a good review.
If you’re considering switching your credit card processing company, or doing business with anyone new for that matter, do a few searches on Bing or Google to see if you can find people who’ve been unhappy with their services in the past. Go through them, read them and see if you think that those complaints have merit, or if you can envision there being another side to the story. You can also ask this company about specific complaints to see if they have anything to say about them. There might be a reasonable explanation.
At the end of the day, you’re going to have to make your own decision, but make sure you do a little bit of research. A few minutes spent before you sign on with a new company can save you a lot of headaches down the line.
